India brought 24 MH-60R choppers from U.S.A cost will be $2.6 billion
Under the
Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program the U.S Department of State has approved
the sale of 24 MH-60R multi-mission helicopters to India and the worth is $2.6
billion, as per a announcement on Tuesday by the Defence Security Cooperation
Agency (DSCA) which is the body that administers the FMS program. Lockheed Martin
will be the principal contractor for this deal.
The DSCA
submitted its certification to the U.S. Congress of the possible sale, take a
30-day notification period. Congress is eligible to approve or disapprove the
potential sale but if it simply takes no action in the 30 days, the sale moves
forward.
India was
granted by the unique Major Defence Partner (MDP) designation in 2016 by the Obama
administration .it is a step that enable the India to access U.S. military
technology at a level on par with those of the U.S.’s closest allies. Then India
brought Strategic Trade Authorisation-1 (STA-1) status by the U.S.A in August
last year and become the third Asian country after South Korea and Japan (and
37th country globally) to acquire it. This was to further facilitate the
transfer of technology in the defence and space sectors.
